- Fewer staff per consumer
- Tighter economic conditions

- Consumer independence trials in Tasmania and elsewhere together with a national focus on wellness, restorative services and client independence
Wellness focussed trials across Tasmania and the rest of Australia have shown positive results. There has been a quiet rollout of restorative/wellness/independence services in all kinds of unexpected places to the point where a national focus on the positive aspects of true consumer independence has begun to emerge. Whatever our intentions, it is now obvious that many of our current services induce dependency rather than independence. There is a different way. It has been successfully tried. Not every consumer will benefit, many may not want to try; but I for one, look forward to learning and participating.
This Tasmanian HACC Conference is your opportunity to help put the “I” back into “Independence”. We want you to be inspired and encouraged and to find out together how we can support consumers in a way that enhances their capacities, safety and independence.
The program including guest speakers, workshops and facilitated discussions will offer those involved in the delivery of HACC services the opportunity to examine how their agency could better support the wellness model. Participants will learn some of the skills required to facilitate the attainment of true client independence.
The theme was inspired by the HACC National Forum on Promoting Independence, held in Victoria earlier this year. With the focus on independence and restorative services, we will question why such change is necessary and discuss how we can facilitate both organisational and client focused cultural change to promote physical and emotional wellbeing.
I look forward to meeting you at the conference.
